POSITION OVERVIEW

The Associate General Counsel will work at the direction of the General Counsel and corporate leadership.

 

The ideal candidate will have a wide range of experience and proficiencies. Areas of the law regularly practiced include mergers/acquisitions, contracting and negotiations, consumer law, IP law, telecommunications law, insurance, regulatory adherence including US and foreign data privacy laws.

 

Strong oral and written presentation skills are required.

Hybrid, from any number of MCI locations nationwide. Following an immersive live introductory period likely in Jacksonville, Florida, the right candidate may be allowed to work remotely while attending live meetings at various MCI locations from time to time.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate General Counsel will support the General Councel in addressing and resolving legal matters. These duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide legal support as needed by the General Counsel
  • Draft, review, and revise contracts and advise on contracts and other transactional agreements that are often subject to quick turnaround times, which could include procurement and services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other business documents.
  • Give accurate and timely counsel to the different internal business units and executives on a variety of legal topics.
  • Conducting legal research on a wide range of topics
  • Monitor applicable state and federal laws, decisional laws from other jurisdictions, and industry publications. 
  • Maintain the highest standards of personal, professional, and ethical conduct and support the company's goals.
  • Clearly communicate policies and procedures to staff 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctorate and membership in at least one U.S. State bar is required.
  • At least 2 full years of experience practicing law, with some portion of that experience encompassing most of the areas of law stated herein.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient legal research and drafting skills, and use of Westlaw and PACER
  • Strong analytical skills/attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Clear, concise and practical communication skills (both oral and written)
  • A solution-oriented and positive mindset that openly embraces change and stretches goals.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and high-pressure environment.
  • Reliable, ethical, and trustworthy.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with communications and privacy laws
  • Large firm or in-house experience
  • AV peer review rating
  • Licensed in NY, Wash DC, or CA

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be largely sedentary and will be required to sit/stand for long periods while using a computer and telephone headset. The employee will be regularly required to operate a computer and other office equipment, including a phone, copier, and printer. The employee may occasionally be required to move about the office to accomplish tasks; reach in any direction; raise or lower objects, move objects from place to place, hold onto objects, and move or exert force up to forty (40) pounds.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must be authorized to work in their country of residence (The United States or Canada)
